Pointer was founded in 2010. In 2011 we began working with Shopify and customizing themes for grass roots, mom-and-pop style businesses. Our client base quickly expanded to include larger organizations through a series of key clients including Death Wish Coffee (an early direct to consumer, or DTC, brand) and the New York Times Store. Since then, we’ve steadily grown our team and client base.2020 was the biggest year in the history of our company. Not only was it our 10 year anniversary but we grew almost 100%, remotely. We designed and built top tier Shopify Plus sites in every industry imaginable. We are focused of creating branded ecommerce experiences bespoke to our clients needs. We continue to push the envelope creating incredible customer experiences.

Position Overview

As an Ecommerce Strategist at Pointer, you’ll support our clients through research and ideation to develop innovative solutions based on insights. You’ll collaborate with designers, developers, and producers, helping to guide clients towards new opportunities to strengthen their brand and drive growth. Your interest in all things ecommerce and direct-to-consumer is essential and will help guide the solutions you present as authentic, insightful, and innovative.


  • Help to define the approach and methodology for your engagements
  • Develop briefs, requirements, project plans, and product roadmaps
  • Develop a clear understanding of our clients, their business, and objectives
  • Direct and guide teams through the concepting and ideation process
  • Plan and lead research efforts and analyze and distill findings into actionable insights
  • Engage client-side stakeholders through workshops, presentations, and reviews
  • Contribute to public thought leadership at Pointer through content and social media

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 5+ years experience in the digital agency, startup, or consulting space
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating skill, craft, thinking, and expertise
  • Deep knowledge of digital platforms, devices, and technologies with specific focus on ecommerce
  • Experience across brand strategy, product strategy, service design, journey mapping, user experience, content strategy, information architecture, and interaction design
  • Experience developing qualitative and quantitative research plans, facilitating studies, and distilling insights
  • Experience engaging clients and leading discussions with stakeholders
  • Strength in presenting, persuading, and selling through ideas

Preferred Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of the Shopify platform
